Has your personal loan application been declined and you're not sure why? There are a number of reasons you might have had your application declined. You can get a bad credit personal loan, though it is probably a good idea to consider what factors may have caused your application to be declined.
Banks will generally lend money too:
- A person who has never borrowed before rather than a person who has proven themselves a bad risk.
- Employed people. Unemployed people and people who haven't been in their jobs for very long may have more trouble getting a personal loan approved.
- Low income earners. Repaying personal loans might take too much out of their earnings.
While banks do loan out money because that's how they make a profit, they do have their own criteria that you need to meet. So a bad credit rating might not be the cause. However, you should check your credit file to make sure there isn't anything that would cause you to be declined.
Problems with your credit rating that could cause you to be declined include:
- Overdue bills that haven't been paid. The company that you owe money too (even if you didn't know about it) may have reported you.
- Previous defaults on things like previous personal loans and credit cards.
- Identity theft. This can happen to anyone and can take time to resolve.
- Details of court judgements and summons, tenancy information, and financial situations.
If your credit report contains any of this information, try to rectify it as soon as possible. You can do this by:
- Fixing up any overdue bills.
- If you have other forms of credit, such as credit cards, other personal loans, and other assorted bills, keep on top of repayments. This may help improve your credit score.
- Try to build up your savings as this is looked upon favourably by many banks.
